We are excited to inform you that our new paediatric diagnostic colonoscopy pathway has now been launched on the JETS website.
What you need to know about the new pathway:
This new version of the pathway is different from our existing pathways as it has three stages.
Stage 1: Intubating transverse colon
Stage 2: Hepatic flexure intubation
Stage 3: Terminal ileal intubation
You will only be able to move onto the next stage once all criteria for the preceding stage are satisfied.

Action for training leads:
All users will automatically be added to the new version of the pathway when they are identified as ‘training’ in paediatric colonoscopy on their training lead’s ‘organisation admin’ page

All users will automatically be added to the new version of the pathway when they are identified as ‘training’ in paediatric colonoscopy on their training lead’s ‘organisation admin’ page.
If you have evidenced 40 or more colonoscopy procedures on JETS in the preceding 12 months from the new pathway launch date, you can request to be moved onto the old version of the pathway. In this case, you will be given 12 months from the date the new pathway launched to complete your application on the old version of the pathway.
If you do not complete your application by this date, you will need to apply through the new colonoscopy pathway, should you still wish to apply for certification.

How this was decided:
The JAG office completed a data extract of all candidates who applied for paediatric certification over the period of 12 months (prior to the data extract). This showed applicants averaged 60 procedures in the preceding 12 months (mean: 60.5, median: 59, mode: 59).
On the old version of the pathway, minimum lifetime procedure count is 100.
Therefore ‘lifetime procedure count’ – ‘procedures in last year’ = 40.
The aim being for all existing candidates to either be certified on the old version of the pathway within 12 months from launch date, or to move to the new version.
