The Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (the JAG) wishes to appoint a JAG Training Centre and Course operational lead. JAG invites applications from persons interested in taking up an important role in supporting the further development of quality assurance for JAG approved endoscopy training centres and courses.

The JAG training centre and course quality assurance lead will be responsible for quality assurance of JAG training centres, assessment of annual reviews and supporting the quality assurance of courses. The individual will work closely with the strategic RTC lead and the JAG team to provide leadership and coordination for the JAG approved training centres. They will be responsible for leading on projects relevant to training centres and courses. They will act as a representative for the training centres so their concerns and expectations can be voiced to the JAG team and other relevant stakeholders.

The appointment is for 1 year in the first instance, with a possible extension of 1 year, funded at £3,500 per year reimbursable to the successful candidate’s employer.

JAG invites applications from persons interested in taking up this important role in providing forward-thinking and expert leadership for the administration and clerical training competency framework.

This dynamic individual will collaborate closely with the JAG programme manager (data and training) and the JAG training group chair to drive excellence in endoscopy administrative workforce to ensure that the administrative workforce is equipped with the skills and knowledge to do their jobs and to support greater efficiency in endoscopy booking and scheduling. The lead plays a key role in the quality assurance framework and development of administration and clerical training framework within the programme, providing expert guidance and collaborating with the JAG senior leadership accreditation team.

The appointment is for 1 year in the first instance, with a possible extension of 1 year, funded at £3,000 per year reimbursable to the individual’s NHS trust.

The biennial census of UK endoscopy services from 2023 has now been released. This census compiles the information from a survey sent to all JAG participating services in April 2023. Key domains included activity, waiting times, workforce and safety.

We are excited to inform you that our new paediatric diagnostic colonoscopy pathway has now been launched on the JETS website.

What you need to know about the new pathway:

This new version of the pathway is different from our existing pathways as it has three stages.

Stage 1: Intubating transverse colon

Stage 2: Hepatic flexure intubation

Stage 3: Terminal ileal intubation

You will only be able to move onto the next stage once all criteria for the preceding stage are satisfied.

Action for training leads:

All users will automatically be added to the new version of the pathway when they are identified as ‘training’ in paediatric colonoscopy on their training lead’s ‘organisation admin’ page

Information for current candidates:

How this was decided:

The JAG office completed a data extract of all candidates who applied for paediatric certification over the period of 12 months (prior to the data extract). This showed applicants averaged 60 procedures in the preceding 12 months (mean: 60.5, median: 59, mode: 59).

On the old version of the pathway, minimum lifetime procedure count is 100.

Therefore ‘lifetime procedure count’ – ‘procedures in last year’ = 40.

The aim being for all existing candidates to either be certified on the old version of the pathway within 12 months from launch date, or to move to the new version.
