The Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (the JAG) wishes to appoint a chair of the National Endoscopy Database (NED) committee. JAG invites application from persons interested in taking up this important role in leading and shaping NED.

The JAG is hosted by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP). The RCP is a patient-centred and clinically led organisation whose core mission is to improve patient care and reduce illness. Our vision is for everyone to have the best possible health and healthcare.

The Care Quality Improvement Department supports the RCP’s strategic aim to improve care for patients. It utilises a variety of methods and approaches to drive improvements in activities, influences the quality of clinical practice via ambitious work programmes that are delivered via constituent teams. JAG aims to promote similar change and improvement in all endoscopy services, whilst also providing assurance to patients, managers, referrers, and commissioners about the service provided.

The NED chair will work in partnership with the JAG programme manager (based at the Royal College of Physicians) to ensure the successful delivery of NED. Working with the JAG Programme Manager you will be responsible for the delivery of the NED project and leading its governance within JAG. You will oversee developments of NED, work with stakeholders to highlight benefits and maximise opportunities for investment and support of NED.

The appointment will be for two years, renewable for a further year by agreement, and will be funded up to £12,000 per annum (up to 1PA), reimbursable to the post-holder’s employer.

Paul Collins is a consultant gastroenterologist at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. He is a luminal gastroenterologist with an interest in inflammatory bowel disease and rare hereditary GI polyposis syndromes.

He has a strong interest in medical education and has previously been the training programme director for gastroenterology for the Mersey scenery. In this role, Paul was a member of the JRCPTB Specialist Advisory Committee for Gastroenterology and a member of the The British Society Of Gastroenterology (BSG) Training Committee.

Paul was appointed as the director of the Mersey School of Endoscopy in 2020. Since its formation in 2022, he has been the operational lead for the North West Endoscopy Academy. Within this role, he has been proud to be part of a large team that have been able to focus on improving the delivery of training and education for the whole of the endoscopy workforce in the North West.

Paul is looking forward to the challenges of his role with the JAG Federation of training centres and working with the other members of the committee, the regional training centres and the JAG team to support the further development of our activities.

Each form is designed for individuals who have interacted with the ERCP or EUS pathway in a trainee, trainer, or training lead capacity.

The feedback is to be collated for the 2-year post-launch reviews with the pathway leads to discuss potential updates. All answers are anonymous, and this form will take approximately 10 minutes to complete (5 sections - not all sections will be applicable to all respondents).

The JAG endoscopy training clinical lead will work in partnership with JAG programme manager (training and data) to ensure the successful delivery of the JETS online system, including development of new certification pathways, ongoing development of the online system, and providing clinical expertise to the JETS office team.

The appointment will be for two years, renewable for a further year by agreement, and will be funded up to £6,000 per annum (up to 0.5PA), reimbursable to the post-holder’s employer.
